Pattern Making Class 1 — Draft & Sew Your First Skirt

Ready to move beyond basic sewing and learn how garments are actually created? In this 4-hour private small-group class, you’ll learn the fundamentals of pattern making and use your own measurements to draft, cut, and sew a basic skirt from your custom pattern.

This hands-on class takes you through the complete process, from measurements and pattern drafting to fabric cutting and garment construction.

During this class, you will:

• Learn essential pattern-making terminology and tools
• Take and record your body measurements
• Learn how measurements translate into a garment pattern
• Draft a basic skirt pattern using your own measurements
• Create front and back pattern pieces with darts
• Add seam allowances, grainlines, notches, and pattern markings
• Prepare your pattern for fabric cutting
• Learn proper fabric layout and cutting techniques
• Cut your skirt from fabric
• Sew and construct your skirt
• Learn basic fitting and finishing techniques
• Leave with your personalized skirt pattern AND the skirt you created

Prerequisites:

• Students must be able to read a basic ruler (inches and fractions) before enrolling.
• Basic sewing knowledge is required for this class.
• This class is not intended for students who are completely new to sewing.
